June 25 – AWB Orlando Relief Effort Update
The Pranic Healing Center of Central Florida has generously offered their space for a series of free trauma relief clinics for the public. Suepriya Saxena and Bob Conrique will be coordinating the first of these on Thursday, June 30 from noon to 2 pm, 619 N. Thornton Ave., Orlando, FL 32803.
One acupuncture practitioner is still needed June 30, who has received previous training by AWB or Steve Shomo, for simplicity during the first clinic at this location. Practitioners must be licensed and have insurance in the state of Florida. If you would like to volunteer, please email Suepriya, email@example.com.

For future clinics at the Pranic Healing Center, volunteer slots will be available for people who both have and have not previously received training. To make sure the team is aligned for those clinics, and roles and protocols are clear, brief, in-service trainings will be offered before each of those clinics for volunteers who have not been previously trained.
We would appreciate your help getting the word out about this clinic to people you know who may want to come and receive free, NADA, ear-acupuncture and ear-seed treatments. Or, if YOU would like to come receive treatment, please do so!!!
(Acupuncture trauma relief work in Orlando and secondary trauma relief through the Pranic Healing Center of Central Florida were recently covered in an article in the Orlando Sentinel. To read the article follow this link: http://bit.ly/1WUAUlu)
Other clinics are in the works and we will keep you posted.

June 21 – AWB Orlando Relief Effort Update
A team of AWB-trained acupuncturists provided treatments yesterday for the staff of the Zebra Coalition, an organization that serves LGBTQ youth ages 13 – 24. The Zebra Coalition has requested treatments for the organization’s clients, but this has not yet been scheduled.
Clinics are also being organized in collaboration with the Florida College of Integrative Medicine. Stay tuned!
June 18 – IN THE NEWS: Orlando Sentinel Covers Acupuncture Relief Effort
Story available here: http://bit.ly/1WUAUlu
The Orlando Sentinel contacted AWB on Friday, June 17 in response to a collaboratively issued press release about upcoming ear acupuncture clinics for trauma recovery. Reporter Jason Ruiter then visited the clinic scheduled for that evening at Stonewall Bar Orlando, received an ear acupuncture treatment and co-authored the story available from the above link.
The Orlando Sentinel’s dedication to making information about alternative treatments for trauma available to the public is much appreciated. One way of defining secondary trauma is the emotional duress that results when an individual hears about or observes the firsthand trauma experiences of another. In particular, the focus on secondary trauma in Orlando is timely, since secondary trauma can be widespread in the aftermath of a violent event, like last weekend’s tragedy in Orlando.

- Florida State Oriental Medical Association
- Florida College of Integrative Medicine
- Colorado Acupuncture Medical Reserve Corps (CAMRC)
- Global Outreach Doctors (GODocs)
- The National Acupuncture Detoxofication Association (NADA)
are bringing together local acupuncturists to provide trauma recovery treatments in Orlando. Treatment venues are being established, and training has been set up for acupuncturists who would like to participate.
First Training June 14
A 3-hour training will be offered on Tuesday, June 14 at 1 PM for acupuncturists who would like to participate in this effort. This training will cover the basic protocols for how the trauma recovery clinics will run, and will include elements of incident command structure which must be understood by all people who work within Florida’s emergency management structure, where at least some of these clinics are planned to be offered. Because of this, even acupuncturists who have previously been trained by AWB are advised to attend. 3 Florida State CEUs will be awarded upon completion and an inquiry is pending about whether NCCAOM PDAs may also be available. A $5.00 donation is suggested to help with the cost of materials.
NADA practitioners who are not also Licensed Acupuncture Physicians are also welcome to attend the training, and to volunteer. They can assist with ear seed treatments and other volunteer responsibilities, although they will not be able to needle under Florida Law.
Additional trainings will likely be given for people who cannot make it June 14, given short notice and work-day availability. These are not yet scheduled.
Pre-registration is appreciated. Please email Trainer/Relief Effort Co-Facilitator Steve Shomo, email@example.com.
The training will take place at:
The Center of Wellness
237 Lookout Place
The Center is graciously donating the space for the training.
